Screen onsite topsoil in the new suburbs of Denman Prospect and Whitlam. This involved processing the material that is stripped during earthworks (usually mixed with clay or rock), before it can be reused as topsoil for suburb landscaping.
Our approach:
At Denman Prospect, we were engaged by the contractor to improve their stockpiled soil. We used our shaker screening machine to size the soil and create a fine, consistent product suitable for landscaping. We then blended in compost and added several slow-release fertilisers to meet the soil specification required. Samples were tested as needed with phosphate, urea, or other additives introduced at specified rates to meet the standards.
At Whitlam, we processed 20,000m³ of topsoil for a civil works company. In processing the raw materials onsite, contractors could draw from the pile for use along pathways, verges, and in open parkland. Processing the soil onsite was particularly important in Whitlam given its proximity to the Molonglo River and concerns about introducing imported soil to the environment.
The results:
The processed soil was stockpiled onsite, ready for use as landscaping progressed. Civil contractors could draw from the stockpile as needed which saved time and cost. Because of the specific compliance requirements for the area, the client could reuse what was already on the ground instead of bringing in fresh soil.
For the client, it delivered a cost effective, specification-compliant solution that made the best use of resources.
